history
The program has existed since October 2, 1983 under the name Hilversum 5. On December 1, 1985, it was renamed Radio 5. From April 2001, the program was called Radio 747, since it has since been broadcast on the medium wave frequency 747 kHz (previously 1008 kHz). On September 4, 2006, it was renamed Radio 5. Since August 19, 2014, the station has had the addition of NPO in its name.
During the day the program is broadcast under the name Radio 5 Nostalgia, while Radio 5 Avond (formerly Avond & Weekend) is broadcast in the evening and on the weekends. The two program windows have different program directors: While Kees Toering is responsible for Radio 5 Nostalgia, Radio 5 Avond is directed by Laurens Borst.
