Barts Neverending Network ( BNN ) was a broadcasting company within Publieke Omroep , the public service broadcaster in the Netherlands . BNN mainly produced programs for teenagers and young adults. On January 1, 2014, it merged with the broadcasting company VARA to form the new broadcasting company BNN-VARA. The programs have been broadcast under the name BNNVARA since August 24, 2017 . The broadcasting companies BNN and VARA officially merged on September 1, 2018.

BNN originally started as a television show on the private broadcaster Veronica . Two years later, they joined the Publieke Omroep and, as a broadcaster, produced several programs for public radio and television. The name BNN (originally Bart's News Network ) was a parody of the name of the broadcaster CNN and referred to its founder, Bart de Graaff , who died of kidney disease in May 2002 at the age of 35. Since then, the name has been changed from BNN to Barts Neverending Network .

Since the reorientation of Dutch television programs in autumn 2006, BNN programs have been broadcast mainly on NPO 3 .

BNN produced u. a. the Dutch version of the well-known Top of the Pops , various youth series and also several music programs.

De Grote Donor Show

In June 2007, the station was sharply criticized for the announcement of a transplant show De Grote Donorshow by the company Endemol , in which viewers were to decide on the allocation of a kidney via SMS. The announcement sparked a great wave of indignation. Shortly before the decision on the show, the broadcaster announced that the show was only bogus. The alleged donor had been informed in advance of the actress Leonie Gebbink and the (actually sick) recipient candidates shown. The aim of the production was to point out the low volume of donations in the Netherlands, partly in honor of the founder, Bart de Graaff, who died exactly five years ago on the broadcast day.
