NPO Radio 1 (until August 19, 2014 Radio 1 ) is the first radio program of the Dutch public broadcaster Nederlandse Publieke Omroep .
history
The station started in 1947 as "Hilversum 2". This name was used until December 1, 1985. Since August 19, 2014, the station has had the addition of NPO in its name.
program
The program of NPO Radio 1 consists mainly of news and music.
reception
The program is broadcast in the Netherlands via cable, FM and DAB. The station can also be freely received via satellite as "NL Radio 1" (Astra 19.2 ° East, 12.344 MHz horizontal, SR 27.500kS, FEC 3/4). From 1950 to 2001 the program was also broadcast on medium wave.
Because of the collapse of the Smilde transmitter on July 15, 2011, large parts of the Netherlands could no longer be supplied with radio programs via VHF and DAB. Therefore, on August 4, 2011, the medium wave transmitter Orfordness , which was shut down on March 27, 2011, was rented in order to be able to supply the affected regions with the NPO Radio 1 program. The medium wave transmission system was switched off again on September 22, 2011.
