NPO Radio 4 (until August 19, 2014 Radio 4 ) is a radio station for classical music within the Nederlandse Publieke Omroep . Public broadcasting in the Netherlands is operated on a subsidiary basis, so that the following institutions contribute to the program:
- KRO (Katholieke Radio Omroep)
- TROS (Omroepvereniging TROS - Televisie & Radio Omroep Stichting)
- AVRO (Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep)
- NPS (Nederlandse Programma Stichting, formerly NTR)

The first broadcast of NPO Radio 4 (then still under the name "Hilversum 4") took place on December 28, 1975. This was also the first broadcast day of the Dutch broadcaster Veronica . At the beginning of the station, André van Duin could be heard very often in the daily program, which had a positive effect on the station at first. In the first few years of broadcasting, the evening program was largely designed by Televisie Academie . The broadcast times were extended very quickly, but at that time there were no broadcasts during the night.
Today NPO Radio 4 broadcasts a 24-hour program over the Internet and satellite in “surround sound”. The program scheme has changed in recent years. Fewer and fewer complete works are being sent in one go; instead more selected fragments from familiar classical works. Since August 19, 2014, the station has had the addition of NPO in its name.
