BVN ( het Beste van Vlaanderen en Nederland ) is the Dutch -speaking public television broadcaster for Dutch and Flemish people abroad. BVN is operated by the NPO based in Hilversum . The station is a cooperation between the Dutch public broadcaster NPO and the Flemish radio and television company VRT , similar to 3sat for German speakers or TV5 Monde for French speakers .

The program mainly consists of news, documentaries, series, talk shows, children's programs and entertainment from NPO 1, 2 and 3 (including Zappelin and Zapp) and VRT Een, Canvas, Ketnet / Op12. Since March 25, 2007, a 12-hour block (from 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.) has been sent and then repeated once so that BVN sends 24 hours a day.

history

The program was started in 1996 under the name Zomer TV (Summer TV) as a program for Dutch holidaymakers in Europe. Initially, it was only broadcast unencrypted for a few hours a day on Astra 19.2 ° East. The program was successively developed into a worldwide Dutch international television station, which was called BVN as an abbreviation for het Beste van Nederland . After the introduction of Flemish radio, the abbreviation was converted to today's long form. The transmitter was originally a project of Radio Nederland Wereldomroep , but this was given different tasks in 2013.

reception

satellite

BVN is broadcast digitally unencrypted in Europe via the Astra 1M satellite (19.2 ° East) and worldwide via various other satellites.

electric wire

BVN was broadcast digitally by Kabel BW in developed areas until the end of March 2014. Vodafone Kabel Deutschland temporarily stopped broadcasting BVN on May 25, 2010 and is now making the BVN signal available again in developed areas. In the cable networks of Unitymedia in North Rhine-Westphalia , BVN is transmitted in encrypted form, unlike Nederland 2 , a paid subscription is required for reception, but all Unitymedia paid subscriptions contain this channel. In Hesse and Baden-Württemberg , BVN has been digitally received as an encrypted bonus program since mid-February 2016. In contrast, BVN is completely absent from Alice's home TV offering. In Norderstedt and the surrounding area, BVN is distributed by wilhelm.tel and the associated municipal cable network operators. M-net feeds BVN in Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg and Erlangen. AWEcable distributes BVN digitally in Oldenburg. Various cable networks in Switzerland (including the major providers UPC Switzerland , Quickline and WWZ ) broadcast BVN digitally.

Internet

BVN also provides a free live stream of its program on the station's website.
