history

The company was founded on January 1st, 2009 as a joint venture between the two regional carriers NetCologne with 84 percent and accom GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of Stawag with 16 percent. The new company commenced operations on April 1, 2009 in conjunction with its own advertising presence.

Products

The company offers its customers analog telephone connections (only for existing customers or in connection with NetDSL), ISDN connections, ADSL connections, fiber optic DSL, cellular communications, cable connections, domain and homepage services for business and private customers as well as various telephone services for business customers .

Since 2010, the company has been expanding the fiber-optic network in Aachen for around 20 million euros in 6,500 houses within the Alleenring, in the Rehmviertel and in the Frankenberger Viertel . The glass fibers are laid down in the cellars of the houses (so-called “Fiber to the Building”, “ FTTB ” for short ) and the existing copper cables are used within the properties. As a rule, however, there is no FTTH “Fiber to the Home”. Here the company has entered into a cooperation with Deutsche Telekom . With this technology, data transfer rates of up to 1000 Mbit / s in the download and 100 Mbit / s in the upload are possible.

VDSL expansion areas: Aachen-Mitte and the city districts of Brand , Haaren and Laurensberg . In addition, Alsdorf , Düren , Geilenkirchen , Herzogenrath , Linnich , Würselen and the North Eifel are occasionally supplied. Aachen Süd and Eilendorf are currently being expanded.

Some objects in Aachen are a hybrid fiber - coax / supplies -Netz (short HFC) with television and Internet / telephony with data transfer rates of up to 50 Mbit / s downstream and 10 Mbit s upstream.

Where there has not yet been any expansion of NetAachen, the company rents the so-called last mile for DSL connections from Deutsche Telekom.

In the 2013 financial year, the company invested 3.6 million euros and had a turnover of 34 million euros.

NetAachen makes its own network available to other competitors as Open Access .

Digital television

The company offers digital television with MultiKabel. NetAachen is thus in direct competition with the cable network operator Unitymedia . The programs offered by NetAachen come from the provider KabelKiosk , Eutelsat , some of which NetAachen feeds in the programs itself. In total, NetAachen offers around 330 TV and radio programs via MultiKabel, as well as IPTV under the name CityNetTV . Since January 30, 2019, the analog distribution of television programs has been discontinued and only digital TV ( DVB-C ) is fed in.
