Frank Boeijen (born November 27, 1957 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch singer , poet , composer and musician . In the 1980s, he became known by Frank Boeijen Groep , along with Doe Maar , Toontje storage and Het Goede Doel the most important band of Nederpop was the time.

Life

Frank Boeijen was born and raised in Nijmegen. He has lived there all his life, with an interruption of a few years. Frank Boeijen comes from a family with ten children, of whom he is the youngest. His youth was dominated by music: influenced at home by his older brothers who brought with them music by Bob Dylan and Neil Young ; at school, where he was often allowed to audition.

1977-1979

After school, he immerses himself completely in music. Frank Boeijen brought out his first album on his own with pop guitarist Wout Pennings in 1977. The album has the appropriate title: Frank Boeijen en Woutje Pennings . In the songs we hear of a young man struggling with himself and the outside world. In 1978 the LP landed with the record company CNR. The company gives Frank Boeijen the opportunity to re-record the album (including four new tracks) under the direction of Rob de Nijs. The name of the album is a little shorter: Boeijen en Pennings . In order to be able to perform, Frank and Wout expand their band with the drummer Henk Wanders and the bass player Nels Busch.

1980-1990

After Wout left the band in 1979 and guitarist Wil Theunissen joined the band, the band is now called Frank Boeijen Groep . The Frank Boeijen Groep releases a total of eleven albums, of which 1001 Hotel (1983), Kontakt (1984), Foto Van Een Mooie Dag (1985), In Natura (1986) and Welkom In Utopia (1987) are the best known. The title Zwart Wit (black and white) appears on Kontakt , which was created on the occasion of the racially motivated murder of Kerwin Duinmeijer . The previously released single reached 4th place in the Dutch Top 40 in 1984.

Frank marries Sky Channel presenter Amanda Redington in September 1990. In June 1994, the two divorced.

From 1991

After a good eleven years, Boeijen disbanded the group in 1991. In November 1991, Wilde Bloemen (Wilde Blumen), Frank Boeijen's first album, was released as a solo artist. In February and March 1993 Frank went on tour with Raymond van het Groenewoud and Harry Sacksioni . In the summer of 1993 he recorded Jazz in Barcelona , an album that marked his divorce from Amanda. But also on the 1994 album De Ontmoeting (The Meeting) there are titles that deal with past love.

In the same year he produced an album for Liesbeth List. Also, appears Een Lied van request , a written communication from the scientist Annette van der Mooren and Popjournalisten Hans Walraven biography. For the biography, the authors interview dozens of friends from his youth, band members, colleagues and critics and speak extensively with the singer himself. Frank writes in the foreword: "If I've forgotten something, I can always find it quickly, a reassuring thought."

At the end of 1996 Frank Boeijen made a trip to Asia, this is reflected in the album Vaderland (Vaterland) which was released in 1997. It contains Asian influences (world music). But the processing of the deaths of both parents to whom the album is dedicated is also reflected.

In the following years De Ballade van de Dromedaris (The Ballade of the Dromedary, 1998), recorded at Real World Studios , the live album Door De Jaren Heen (Over the years, 1999) and the mini-album Kind vande Vijand were released (Kind des Feindes, 2000) with Stef Bos on the 75th anniversary of the development aid organization Memisa .

In 2004 Frank Boeijen was awarded the Radio 2 Zendtijdprijs . During the gala concert on March 14th, Freek de Jonge , Trijntje Oosterhuis , Mathilde Santing , Stef Bos and Liesbeth List pay homage to Frank.

In November 2006, AS will be released , a double CD with twenty new songs and a DVD with a making-of . The pieces are new, but designed to give something like a summary of his previous musical life. Some of the songs are recorded together with an orchestra in Prague. The first single on the CD is called Aan de Bezitters van een Ziel ; an indictment of the hardening conditions in the Netherlands. The second title Steppenwolf refers to the novel of the same name by Hermann Hesse . The song Het Lied van de Doofheid (The Song of Deafness) was written on the occasion of the murder of the director Theo van Gogh .

The album Aardige Jongens was created in 2008 in collaboration with the Dutch musicians Henk Hofstede ( Nits ) and Henny Vrienten ( Doe Maar ) .

The album Camera was released in November 2009 .
