German compilation charts

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Compilation Charts (currently Compilation Top 30 ) is a chart analysis by the market research company GfK Entertainment , which is published weekly. They contain the most successful samplers on the music market and are the official compilation charts in Germany.

General information and qualification criteria

It is a compilation if the image or sound carrier contains titles from more than two different performers ( soloists , ensembles or orchestras ). This does not apply to image and sound carriers that can be characterized as a project or a work that belongs together (e.g. concert ). It does not matter whether it is an artist from one musical genre or the musical genres are mixed together. Often the artist information on samplers is given as “Diverse Interpreten” or the English version “Various Artists”.

All productions that meet the previous conditions are assigned to the compilation charts, in particular samplers with titles by three or more artists or groups and productions that are linked to television series . "DJ projects", that is, compilations of original titles with smooth transitions (e.g. hit mixes), are treated as samplers. The album charts and the compilation charts are shown in separate lists. The original positions of samplers in the album charts are determined and communicated. Then the samplers are cleared from the album charts and “artist products” move up from the lower positions and form the album charts . Even premium streaming , which means the customer pays for access to music, are for the Compilation Charts into account. The basics of chart determination such as data acquisition and data processing or the qualification and addition rules are analogous to the rules for creating album charts .

In addition to the regular weekly compilation charts , midweek charts are also collected. These are determined as a top 100 hit list analogous to the rules of the compilation Top 30 for the cumulative period from Friday to Monday and are intended to serve as an initial trend for the weekly charts that will appear later. Daily trend charts are also collected. These are determined daily as the top 50 charts. The determination is made on the basis of the previous day, except on Sundays.

Milestones

The German compilation charts were introduced on January 13, 1992 as a weekly hit parade for samplers. The fifth part of the KuschelRock series was the first work to be at the top of the chart. Initially, the hit parade did not have a fixed size, so that 18 samplers made it into the chart evaluation in the first chart edition and only 16. With only nine samplers, the chart week of April 6, 1992 included the fewest products in the ranking. Since January 20, 1997, the list consisted of 30 products. KuschelRock 5 was not only able to position itself at the top of the chart as the first album, it was also the first sampler to defend its top position on January 20, 1992. With 19 weeks in a row, KuschelRock 6 was at the top of the chart for the longest uninterrupted period (12. October 1992 - February 21, 1993). In addition, the sampler holds the general record for the longest time spent at the top of the chart, at 20 weeks, and the record for the longest period between the first and last number one week (21 weeks). The sampler Bravo Hits 105 managed to regain the top of the chart three times, more often than any other sampler. Most of the samplers at the top of the chart were placed in the series Bravo Hits with 107 albums, and since the third part of the series all products have reached the top of the chart. Overall, the Bravo Hits sampler stayed at the top of the chart for 663 weeks, longer than any other sampler series.
