Boy (spelling BOY) is a music duo made up of the Zurich singer Valeska Steiner and the Hamburg musician Sonja Glass.

history

The two musicians met in 2005 at the pop course at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg and founded the band in 2007. After earning their audience primarily at concerts, they were signed by Grönland Records in 2011 . The debut album Mutual Friends , which was produced by Philipp Steinke , was also released there in autumn 2011 .

The debut album entered the German charts at position 14. After appearing on the TV show NDR Talk Show on September 9, 2011, it landed in the top 3 on iTunes and number 1 in the sales charts on Amazon. In November 2012, the duo received a gold record .

Boy won the Hamburg Music Prize HANS in the Hamburg Young Talent of the Year category in 2011 and the EBBA in 2012 . In 2015, Boy's team received the HANS in the Best Artist Development category .

The piece Little Numbers became the theme song of the film No Sex Is No Solution and the Sat.1 comedy series Knallerfrauen in 2011 . Little Numbers could also be heard in the Lufthansa commercial "Nonstop You", which was broadcast across Europe . In July 2013, the song also reached number 4 on the Japanese Billboard Hot 100 .

Her second album We Were Here was released on August 21, 2015, and reached third place in the charts in Germany and Switzerland.

style

The duo's style is described as catchy, modern, but individual pop , reminiscent of Feist's music .

Trivia

Valeska Steiner and Sonja Glass can be heard as background singers in the song Kolly Kibber from Peter Doherty's album Hamburg Demonstrations from 2016. According to producer Johann Scheerer , the collaboration came about by chance because the band Boy was working on recordings in his studio at the same time as he was working on the song with Doherty.
