The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of La Plata ( lat. : Archidioecesis Platensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de La Plata ) is in Argentina situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese . The metropolitan seat is in La Plata , capital of the province of Buenos Aires .
history
The diocese of La Plata was on February 15, 1897 by Pope Leo XIII. founded out of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires ; Mariano Antonio Espinosa became the first bishop the following year . 1934 took place by Pius XI. the elevation to the archbishopric; the first archbishop was Francisco Alberti .
Parts of its territory of the Archdiocese of La Plata became the dioceses of Azul (1934), Bahía Blanca (1934), Mercedes (1934), San Nicolás de los Arroyos (1947), Lomas de Zamora (1957), Mar del Plata (1957), Morón (1957), San Isidro (1957), Avellaneda (1961), Quilmes (1976) and Chascomús (1980).
The suffragan diocese of Azul , Chascomús and Mar del Plata are subordinate to the Archdiocese of La Plata .
