Carlos Walter Galán Barry

Carlos Walter Galán Barry (born May 31, 1925 in Nueve de Julio , † January 25, 2003 in La Plata ) was Archbishop of La Plata .

Life

Carlos Galán originally wanted to become a doctor and had already started a corresponding degree before he enrolled in the seminary. He was ordained a priest on September 19, 1953 . After he was ordained a priest, he first worked as a parish priest. In 1966 he became general secretary of the Argentine Bishops' Conference, which he remained until 1983.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Morón and titular bishop of Cediae on February 11, 1981 . The Archbishop of Cordoba , Raúl Francisco Cardinal Primatesta , ordained him bishop on March 25 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Justo Oscar Laguna , Bishop of Morón , and Jorge Carlos Carreras , Bishop of San Justo .

He was appointed Archbishop of La Plata on May 8, 1991, and was appointed to office on July 27 of the same year. On June 12, 2000, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
