Raúl Francisco Cardinal Primatesta (born April 14, 1919 in Capilla del Señor , Argentina , † May 1, 2006 in Córdoba ) was Archbishop of Córdoba (Argentina) .

Life

Raúl Francisco Primatesta completed his philosophical and theological studies with the licentiate examination for the subjects Catholic theology and Exegesis of the New Testament at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . On October 25, 1942, he received the sacrament of ordination through Archbishop Luigi Traglia . He initially taught Latin and ancient Greek at the boys' seminary in his home diocese of La Plata , before he was appointed professor of dogmatics and biblical theology at the local seminary and took over the role of disciplinary prefect, and later that of rain .

On June 14, 1957, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as titular bishop of Tanais and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of La Plata . He received the episcopal ordination on August 15, 1957 by Antonio José Plaza , Archbishop of La Plata; Co- consecrators were Auxiliary Bishop Adolfo Tortolo from Paraná and the Bishop of Santa Rosa , Jorge Mayer .

On June 12, 1961, Pope John XXIII conferred Primatesta led the newly established diocese of San Rafael . The inauguration took place on November 11th of the same year. Pope Paul VI appointed him Archbishop of Cordoba on February 16, 1965. Primatesta participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On March 5, 1973, Pope Paul VI took him. as a cardinal priest with the titular church Beata Maria Vergine Addolorata a piazza Buenos Aires in the cardinals college . Between 1977 and 1980 he was a member of the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops . Pope John Paul II relieved Cardinal Primatesta of his duties as Archbishop of Córdoba on November 17, 1998 for reasons of age. Primatesta was a participant in the conclave in August 1978 as well as in the one in October 1978 ; the conclave in 2005 , he did not participate because he had exceeded the prescribed for the active papal election age limit of 80 years at that time.

Cardinal Primatesta died on May 1, 2006 after heart problems in his residence in Cordoba.
