Carlos José Ñáñez (born August 9, 1946 in Córdoba , Argentina ) is Archbishop of Córdoba .

Life

Ñáñez entered the seminary of the Archdiocese of Córdoba after graduating from the Liceo Militar General Paz of the Argentine Army . He graduated from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome with a degree in theology. On July 17, 1971, he received the sacrament of ordination in Cordoba . He was assistant to the chaplain at the Liceo Militar General Paz , later chaplain at the Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto de Córdoba . He worked at the seminary in Cordoba and was vice-rector and from 1978 to 1988 rain of the seminary. From 1989 to 1990 he was pastor of the parish of Christ the Redeemer in Cordoba.

On 12 December 1990 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Lete and auxiliary bishop in Córdoba. He was ordained bishop on January 24, 1991 by the Archbishop of Córdoba, Cardinal Raúl Francisco Primatesta . Co -consecrators were Archbishop Ubaldo Calabresi , Apostolic Nuncio in Argentina, and Adolfo Roque Esteban Arana , Bishop of Río Cuarto . Carlos José Ñáñez was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Tucumán on December 20, 1995 . He took up this position on February 2, 1996. Pope John Paul II appointed Ñáñez Archbishop of Córdoba on November 17, 1998. He took office on March 12, 1999. On June 29 of the same year he received the pallium from Pope John Paul II.

Ñáñez is a member of the Argentine Bishops' Conference CEA and was a member of the Episcopal Commission of Ministries (1991–1999), President of the Episcopal Commission for Family (1999–2005) and has been President of the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy and the “ad hoc” Commission since 2005 the catholic missal in Argentina.

On July 22, 2014, he was appointed by Pope Francis to be a member of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity .
