Alberto Germán Bochatey Chaneton OSA (born July 23, 1955 in Buenos Aires ) is auxiliary bishop in La Plata .

Life

Alberto Germán Bochatey joined the Augustinian Order in Spain in 1974 and made temporary profession on September 12, 1975 . After studying philosophy and theology in the monastery of Santa Maria de la Vid and in Rome, he returned to Argentina. Here he made his solemn profession on December 21, 1980 and the prelate of Cafayate , Diego Gutiérrez Pedraza OSA, ordained him a priest on April 24, 1981 . At first he worked in pastoral care in Buenos Aires, but soon returned to Rome for further studies.

In 1986 he obtained a licentiate in moral theology from the Accademia Alfonsiana and a master's degree in bioethics from the Pontifical Institute “John Paul II” for studies on marriage and family .

After his return to Argentina in 1988, Alberto Germán Bochatey worked, among other things, as pastor, prior and editor as well as professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina . From 2010 he was rector of the Santa Monica International College in Rome.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 4, 2012 titular bishop of Mons in Mauretania and auxiliary bishop in La Plata. The Archbishop of La Plata, Héctor Rubén Aguer , donated him episcopal ordination on March 9 of the next year . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Tucumán , Alfredo Zecca , the Prelate Emeritus of Cafayate, Cipriano García Fernández OSA, and Auxiliary Bishop Nicolás Baisi from La Plata.

Alberto Germán Bochatey has been a full member of the Pontifical Academy for Life since June 2017 , of which he was previously a corresponding member. On August 5, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him a board member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.

During the brief vacancy from June 4 to 16, 2018, he was Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of La Plata.
