Alfredo Horacio Zecca (born September 27, 1949 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is an Argentine theologian and emeritus Archbishop of Tucumán .

Life

Education

Alfredo Zecca studied education, philosophy and theology in Buenos Aires. On November 19, 1976, he received the sacrament of ordination through the Archbishop of Buenos Aires , Juan Carlos Cardinal Aramburu . In Germany, he completed a doctoral degree as a scholarship holder of the Latin America-Germany Scholarship Association and received his doctorate in 1988 from the University of Tübingen with a dissertation on Ludwig Feuerbach .

University professor and rector

After returning to Argentina, he was Professor of Fundamental Theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina and its Rector from 1999 to 2009. From 2006 to 2009 he was president of the umbrella organization of Catholic universities in Latin America ( Organización de Universidades Católicas de América Latina - ODUCAL) within the International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC).

Archbishop of Tucumán

On June 10, 2011 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Tucumán. The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Mario Cardinal Bergoglio SJ , donated him episcopal ordination on August 18 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Emeritus of Paraná , Estanislao Esteban Karlic Cardinal , Archbishop Emeritus of Rosario , Eduardo Vicente Mirás , and Archbishop Emeritus of Tucumán, Luis Héctor Villalba , as well as the auxiliary bishop in Santiago del Estero , Ariel Edgardo Torrado Mosconi . The inauguration took place on September 17, 2011.

Alfredo Zecca has also been a member of the Congregation for Catholic Education since 2012 .

On June 9, 2017, Pope Francis accepted Zecca's premature resignation for health reasons and appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of the fallen Italian diocese of Bolsena .
