Estanislao Esteban Cardinal Karlic (born February 7, 1926 in Oliva in the province of Córdoba , Argentina ) is emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Paraná .

Life

Estanislao Esteban Karlic, son of a Croatian immigrant family, entered the seminary in 1947 and studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome from 1948 to 1954 . He received on 8 December 1954, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1955 to 1963 he was a lecturer at the seminary in Cordoba. In 1964 he received his doctorate at the Gregorian and was then professor of theology at the Universidad Católica de Córdoba in Córdoba .

On June 6, 1977, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Castrum and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Córdoba . He received his episcopal ordination on August 15, 1977 by the Archbishop of Córdoba, Raúl Francisco Cardinal Primatesta . Co- consecrators were Alfredo Guillermo Disandro , auxiliary bishop in Cordoba, and Cándido Genaro Rubiolo , bishop of the diocese of Villa María .

On January 19, 1983 Pope appointed him John Paul II. To Koadjutorerzbischof the Archdiocese of Paraná . The inauguration took place on March 20 of the same year. When Adolfo Tortolo resigned on April 1, 1986, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Paraná.

He was involved in numerous administrative tasks. From 1996 to 2002 he was President of the Argentine Bishops' Conference . On April 29, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted Karlic's resignation due to reasons of age at the age of 78. In 2004 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina .

On November 24, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church Beata Maria Vergine Addolorata a piazza Buenos Aires in the cardinals college . Cardinal Karlic did not take part in the conclave of 2013 after Benedict's resignation, since he was 80 years old at this point .
