Johann Baptist Czjzek

Johann Baptist Anton Karl Cžjžek , Czech Jan Křtitel Cžižek (born May 25, 1806 in Groß-Girna , Bohemia , † July 17, 1855 in Atzgersdorf ) was an Austrian geologist .

Life

After attending grammar schools in Leitomischl , Prague and Vienna , Czjzek entered the mountain subject as an intern in 1825. A scholarship enabled him to study at the Bergakademie Schemnitz from 1826 . After graduation he got a job as an accessist at the Bergakademie in Příbram in Bohemia in 1829 . From 1835 he worked for the mint and mining court bookkeeping in Vienna, where he met the geologist Wilhelm von Haidinger .

Czjzek joined the Society of Friends of the Natural Sciences founded by Haidinger. He participated in the geological cartography of the northern Alps and the country of Bohemia and was the author of the first geological map of Bohemia.

Johann Baptist Czjzek gained recognition through his work. With the establishment of the Imperial Geological Institute in Vienna, Czjzek received the rank of Second Geologist and the title of kk real Bergrath . He published geological contributions in the yearbook of the Geological Reichsanstalt in Volume 2 (1850), Volume 3 (1851) and Volume 5 (1853). During one of his excursions, Czjzek fell seriously ill and died of the consequences at the age of 49. He is the father of the industrialist Johann Czjzek von Smidaich and the uncle of the porcelain manufacturer and industrialist Georg Haas von Hasenfels .
