Luis Héctor Cardinal Villalba (born October 11, 1934 in Buenos Aires ) is old archbishop of Tucumán .

Life

Luis Héctor Villalba joined the seminary in his hometown in 1952 and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires on September 24, 1960 . In 1961 he obtained a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University . He taught church history from 1965 to 1975 at the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University of Argentina. From 1969 to 1972 Villalba was also dean of this faculty.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Buenos Aires and titular bishop of Aufinium on October 20, 1984 . The Archbishop of Buenos Aires , Juan Carlos Cardinal Aramburu , donated him episcopal ordination on December 22nd of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Arnaldo Clemente Canale , auxiliary bishop in Buenos Aires, and Carmelo Juan Giaquinta , auxiliary bishop in Viedma .

On July 16, 1991, he was appointed Bishop of San Martín and on October 26 of the same year he was appointed to the office. On July 8, 1999, he was appointed Archbishop of Tucumán , and on September 17 of the same year he was appointed to the office. From 2005 to 2011, Villalba was Vice President of the Argentine Bishops' Conference . On June 10, 2011, Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.

In the solemn consistory on February 14, 2015, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Girolamo a Corviale in the college of cardinals . From August 16 to October 23, 2017, Cardinal Villalba was Apostolic Administrator in charge of the affairs of the Archdiocese of Tucumán.
