Víctor Manuel Fernández (Archbishop)

Víctor Manuel Fernández (born July 18, 1962 in Alcira Gigena ) is an Argentine clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of La Plata .

Life

Víctor Manuel Fernández was ordained deacon on December 21, 1985 and ordained a priest on August 15, 1986 .

Since 2011 he has been the rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina .

Pope Francis appointed him Titular Archbishop of Tiburnia on May 13, 2013 . The Archbishop of Buenos Aires , Mario Aurelio Poli , ordained him episcopal on June 15 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz , José María Arancedo , the Archbishop of Corrientes , Andrés Stanovnik OFMCap , the Bishop of Villa de la Concepción del Río Cuarto , Eduardo Eliseo Martín , and the Bishop of Quilmes , Carlos José Tissera .

Fernández is considered "one of the Pope's closest confidants". On December 17, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him Consultor of the Congregation for Catholic Education . He held the rectorate of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina until April 2018. On May 9, 2018, Miguel Ángel Schiavone was sworn in as his successor in the rector's office.

On June 2, 2018, Pope Francis announced his appointment as Archbishop of La Plata. The inauguration took place on June 16 of the same year.
