José María Arancedo (born October 26, 1940 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz .

Life

José María Arancedo was ordained a priest on December 16, 1967 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Selemselae and auxiliary bishop in Lomas de Zamora on March 4, 1988 . The episcopal consecration donated the bishop of Lomas de Zamora, Desiderio Elso Collino , on May 6th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Héctor Gabino Romero , Bishop of Rafaela , and Luis Teodorico Stöckler , Bishop of Goya .

He was appointed Bishop of Mar del Plata on November 19, 1991, and was introduced to the office on December 15 of the same year. He was appointed Archbishop of Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz on February 13, 2003 and was introduced to office on March 30 of the same year.

For the term from 2011 to 2014 he was elected President of the Bishops' Conference of Argentina . In November 2014, his term of office was extended for a further three years. On November 7, 2017, he handed over the office to Óscar Vicente Ojea Quintana .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on April 17, 2018.
