Edgardo Gabriel Storni (born April 6, 1936 in Santa Fe , Argentina , † February 20, 2012 in Córdoba ) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Santa Fe de la Veracruz .

Life

Storni was ordained a priest on December 23, 1961 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 31, 1976 titular bishop of Croae and auxiliary bishop in Santa Fe. The episcopal ordination donated him on March 25, 1977 the old archbishop of Santa Fe, Vicente Faustino Zazpe ; Co- consecrators were Manuel Marengo , Bishop of Azul , and Ítalo Severino Di Stéfano , Bishop of San Roque de Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña .

On August 28, 1984 he was appointed Archbishop of Santa Fe by Pope John Paul II to succeed the late Vicente Faustino Zazpe .

He gave up the leadership of the diocese on October 1, 2002 following allegations of sexual abuse against 47 seminarians . First of all, a Vatican investigative commission was convened in 1994. The investigations were conducted by Monsignor José María Arancibia . As a result, the nuncio Ubaldo Calabresi arranged a meeting with Pope John Paul II , who asked him to resign.

In 2002, the Argentine publicist Olga Wornat published a documentary on the case. The corresponding book " Nuestra Santa Madre " (Eng. Our Holy Mother ) caused a sensation at the Santa Fe Book Fair . In the same year, Storni gave way to public pressure and gave up his office. In 2009 he was sentenced to eight years in prison. At that time he was living in a church residence in La Falda , Córdoba .
