José María Arancibia

José María Arancibia (born April 11, 1937 in Buenos Aires ) is retired Archbishop of Mendoza .

Life

José María Arancibia was ordained a priest on September 22, 1962 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Pumentum and auxiliary bishop in Córdoba on February 26, 1987 . He was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Cordoba, Cardinal Raúl Francisco Primatesta , on May 28 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Estanislao Esteban Karlic , Coadjutor Archbishop of Paraná , and Omar Félix Colomé , Bishop of Cruz del Eje .

On February 13, 1993 he was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Mendoza and on May 28 of the same year he was appointed to the office. With the retirement of Cándido Genaro Rubiolo , he succeeded him on March 25, 1996 in the office of Archbishop of Mendoza.

On November 10, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
