John George Vlazny (born February 22, 1937 in Chicago ) is an American clergyman and retired Archbishop of Portland, Oregon .

Life

John George Vlazny was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago on December 20, 1961 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Chicago and titular bishop of Stagnum on October 18, 1983 .

The Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Joseph Louis Bernardin , ordained him episcopal on December 13 of the same year; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Chicago Nevin William Hayes OCarm and Alfred Leo Abramowicz .

He was appointed Bishop of Winona on May 19, 1987, and was introduced to the office on July 29 of the same year. He was named Archbishop of Portland, Oregon on October 28, 1997, and inducted into office on December 19 of the same year.

On January 29, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation.
