Alfonso Cortés Contreras

Alfonso Cortés Contreras (born July 16, 1947 in La Luz , Michoacán ) is Archbishop of León .

Life

Alfonso Cortés Contreras was ordained a priest on October 26, 1972 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 24, 2005 titular bishop of Aquae Regiae and auxiliary bishop in Monterrey . He was ordained episcopal on August 24th of the same year by the Archbishop of Monterrey, José Francisco Robles Ortega ; Co- consecrators were Giuseppe Bertello , Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico , and José Guadalupe Martín Rábago , Bishop of León .

He was appointed Bishop of Cuernavaca on July 10, 2009, and was introduced to the office on August 18 of the same year. He was appointed Archbishop of León on December 22, 2012 and was introduced to office on March 20 of the following year. Until the replacement of the Episcopal See of Cuernavaca on March 15, 2013, he was Apostolic Administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of this diocese.
