Giuseppe Cardinal Bertello (born October 1, 1942 in Foglizzo , Province of Turin , Italy ) is a Cardinal Curia of the Roman Catholic Church and President of the Vatican Governorate and thus Prime Minister of the Vatican City .

Life

Bertello received on 29 June 1966 by Bishop Albino Mensa , the ordination . He then entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See. On 17 October 1987 it appointed Pope John Paul II. To Titular Archbishop of Urbs Salvia and sent him as apostolic nuncio to West Africa ( Togo , Ghana and Benin ). On September 3, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI called Bertello succeeds Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo as President of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican City State and the Vatican City Governorate . He took up both positions on October 1, 2011.
