Real Gagnier

Réal Gagnier (born March 24, 1905 in Montreal , † March 19, 1984 ibid) was a Canadian oboist and music teacher .

Life

Gagnier received his first training from his father Joseph Gagnier and was then a student of his older brother Ernest for six years . He studied with Alexandre Laurendeau from 1926 to 1932 and completed his training with Fernand Gillet from 1947 to 1953 .

He was a member of various orchestras in Montreal and principal oboist of the Canadian Grenadier Guards Band , the Montreal Orchestra and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (1935–1955). From 1942 to 1945 he was a member of the Gagnier Woodwind Quintet .

Gagnier taught from 1938 to 1963 at McGill University and from 1942 to 1972 at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec . Armand Ferland , Bernard Jean , Jacques Simard and Louise Pellerin were among his students .
