The Canadian Grenadier Guards ( German Grenadier - Guard ) is an in Montreal stationed Reserve - Infantry - Regiment of the Canadian Army . In addition to the Governor General's Foot Guards and the mounted Governor General's Horse Guards, they are the third Household Regiment of the Canadian Governor General and thus also the British Queen Elizabeth II in her function as Canadian monarch .
history
The Canadian Grenadier Guards were founded in 1859 as the First Battalion Volunteer Militia Rifles of Canada . Now known as the Prince of Wales' Fusiliers , the Canadian Grenadier Guards has been the official name since December 29, 1911.
During the First World War (1914-18) the Canadian Grenadier Guards fought on the Western Front . During World War II , the regiment was involved in the Normandy invasion and the Pacific War .

After the Second World War the regiment u. a. active in Afghanistan. The regiment also exercised its traditional privilege of protecting the monarch and the Canadian governor general. The Grenadier Guards are now a reserve light infantry regiment.
