The Governor General's Foot Guards are in the Canadian capital Ottawa stationed Reserve - Infantry - Regiment of the Canadian Army . In addition to the Canadian Grenadier Guards and the mounted Governor General's Horse Guards, they are the third Household Regiment of the Canadian Governor General and thus also the British Queen Elizabeth II in her function as Canadian monarch .

history

The Governor General's Foot Guards were established in 1872. Even then, there were informal relationships with the British Coldstream Guards , whose uniform is based on the parade uniform of the Governor General's Foot Guards.

During the First World War (1914-18) battalions of the Governor General's Foot Guards fought on the Western Front . During World War II , members of the regiment were involved in the invasion of Normandy .

The Governor General's Foot Guards today

After the Second World War the regiment u. a. active in Afghanistan. The regiment also exercised its traditional privilege of protecting the monarch and the Canadian governor general. The Governor General's Foot Guards are now a reserve light infantry regiment.
