Clemens Graf von Podewils

Clemens Graf von Podewils-Juncker-Bigatto , also Clemens von Podewils or Clemens Podewils (born August 20, 1905 in Bamberg , † August 5, 1978 in Munich ) was a German journalist and writer.

Life

Clemens von Podewils came from the Podewils family , was the officer's son and grandson of the Bavarian Prime Minister Clemens Graf von Podewils-Dürniz and, after graduating from high school in 1923, studied law at the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich . During this time he became a member of the Catholic student union Rheno-Bavaria . In 1927 he became a trainee lawyer in Hamburg and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. In 1929 he began his journalistic activity as a cultural reporter for various German newspapers (including Münchner Neue Nachrichten , Germania , Kölnische Volkszeitung ) in England and France. From 1932 to 1934 he worked as a press attaché at the German embassy in Brussels. He then retired as a landowner at Schloss Schweering near Mies in western Bohemia.

From 1939 Podewils was war correspondent in Russia, Italy and France and in 1944 (until 1946) he was taken prisoner by the English. From 1949 to 1975 he was Secretary General of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts . On their behalf, he and Heinz Piontek edited the international yearbook for literary ensemble from 1968/69 . He also appeared with stories (including Der Zriny , 1955) and poetry (including Wegwarte , 1978). His wife was the poet Sophie Dorothee geb. Freiin von Hirschberg , his daughter is the author Barbara von Wulffen .
