Sergio Cardinal Guerri (born December 25, 1905 in Tarquinia , Viterbo Province , Italy , † March 15, 1992 in the Vatican State ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Sergio Guerri studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Montefiascone and Rome . He received on 30 March 1929, the sacrament of Holy Orders and entered after completing further studies in the services of the Pontifical Athenaeum De Propaganda Fide . In 1940 he received the honorary title of papal secret chamberlain, from 1941 to 1946 he worked as an official of the Institute for Religious Works. In 1948 Pope Pius XII appointed him . Pro-secretary, 1952 secretary for the administration of the property of the Holy See .

In 1960 Pope John XXIII called Sergio Guerri as Secretary of the Secretariat for the Preparation of the Second Vatican Council , and in 1961 appointed him Commissioner for Special Administrative Affairs of the Holy See. From 1960 to 1965, Sergio Guerri acted as authorized secretary of the Second Vatican Council.

In April 1969 Pope Paul VI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Trebia . The episcopal ordination received Sergio Guerri on 27 April 1969 by Secretary of State Cardinal Amleto Giovanni Cicognani ; Co- consecrators were Joseph Mark McShea , Bishop of Allentown , and Plinio Pascoli , Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of Rome .

On April 28, 1969 Sergio Guerri was as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonie Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano into the College of Cardinals received. In 1979 he opted for the cardinal class of cardinal priests while retaining his title diakonia , which was pro hac vice elevated to title church . Until 1981 he headed the Pontifical Commission for the State of the Vatican City as Pro-President .

He died on March 15, 1992 in the Vatican and was buried in his family's chapel in the Tarquinia cemetery.
