Richard Corts
Richard Corts (born July 3, 1905 in Remscheid ; † August 7, 1974 there ) was a German athlete and Olympic medalist.
At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 he won the silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with Georg Lammers , Hubert Houben and Helmut Körnig , with Richard Corts running as second runner. He also took part in the 100-meter individual race at these Olympic Games , but was eliminated in the semifinals . On September 2, 1928, in Berlin, the German sprint relay with Jonath , Corts, Houben and Körnig undercut the US Olympic champion's world record in 40.8 s, but this improvement was achieved on a 600-meter track, i.e. with one curve less than at the Olympic Games.
In 1925 and 1928 Corts was German champion in the 100 meter run , where he started in 1925 for the Stuttgarter Kickers and in 1928 for the DSC Berlin . In his championship success in 1928 on July 15, 1928, he set his personal best in 10.4 s; this time set the world record of the American Charles Paddock , but was not officially recognized as a world record by the IAAF. At a height of 1.77 m, Corts had a competition weight of 68 kg. He died by suicide .
