Wilhelm Storck

Wilhelm Storck (born July 5, 1829 in Genna near Iserlohn , † July 16, 1905 in Münster ) was a German poet , Germanist , Romanist and translator .

Life

The son of a teacher and organist passed his school leaving examination at the Laurentianum Gymnasium in Arnsberg with distinction. From 1850 he then studied German in Munich , Münster and Bonn and philology in Berlin . There he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1858. His teachers included Franz Bopp , Moriz Haupt and Karl Müllenhoff . From 1859 he was an associate professor and from 1868 a full professor of German studies at the University of Münster . At times he taught Italian, Portuguese, Provencal, Sanskrit and Spanish. His students included Joseph Hengesbach and Julius Schwering . Storck married Antonie Kenter in 1860, a daughter of the Arnsberg music teacher Theodor Kenter. In 1905 he died of liver disease in Münster.
