Johann Baptist Schneider (born May 28, 1840 in Gaunersdorf , Lower Austria , † January 26, 1905 in Vienna ) was vicar general and auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Vienna .

Life

He attended the Schottengymnasium in Vienna and in 1856 joined Godfried Marschall in the newly founded prince-archbishop's seminary in Vienna, changed to the Vienna seminary in 1860 and studied Catholic theology at the University of Vienna . He was ordained a priest on July 19, 1864 . He obtained his doctorate in Vienna in 1869. theol. and from 1870 studied canon law in Rome .

In 1870 he became imperial chaplain, 1871 Hofburg parish vicar, 1881 associate professor of fundamental theology in Vienna, 1885 court and castle pastor of St. Augustine in Vienna , 1891 canon of St. Stephan in Vienna .

On June 25, 1896, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Vienna and titular bishop of Parnassus . He was ordained bishop on August 23, 1896 . In 1898 he was appointed Vicar General of Cardinal Gruscha , and in 1899 he became Provost of St. Stephan.
