The Archbishop's Seminary in Vienna (formerly known as the Vienna Seminary) is the training center for secular priests in the Archdiocese of Vienna .

history

It was founded in 1758 by Archbishop Christoph Anton Graf Migazzi . This is where the formation of the diocesan clergy took place. For a long time it was located in the Curhaus (also Churhaus ) on Stephansplatz in Vienna .

Archbishop Sigismund Anton Graf von Hohenwart had the building increased in 1805 in order to accommodate more seminarians.

Under Cardinal Franz Xaver Nagl , the Spanish Hospital in Boltzmanngasse in Vienna's 9th district, where an orphanage was last located, was rebuilt and expanded. The move took place in the summer of 1914. The Vienna seminary has been housed there ever since.

From autumn 2012 the training will partly be carried out together with the Burgenland seminary and the St. Pölten seminary. The seminarians of all three seminars live in the building of the Vienna seminary.

The seminar leadership of the three seminars under one roof currently consists of Regens Richard Tatzreiter, the subregents Markus Muth, P. Lorenz Voith CSsR and the spiritualists P. Michael Meßner SJ and Peter Miscik.
