The Archbishop's Seminary of St. John the Baptist in Munich is the training center for priests of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

The house and the management working there combine different training locations and training elements. The future priests study philosophy and theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University , some philosophy at the University of Philosophy in Munich. A diverse community life is part of the seminary: community living, prayer and celebration, some practical training elements for spiritual and liturgical education, as well as individual coaching towards the goal of the priestly profession. The seminary also includes candidates for priests who do not live in the house, but in other study houses (for example in the Collegium Germanicum in Rome or on the 3rd educational path in the St. Lambert study housein Lantershofen), in the external academic year or in a parish during the two years of the pastoral course, which prepares for the priestly ordination after graduation . The training is based on the framework for the formation of priests , which the German Bishops' Conference put into effect on January 1, 2004.

history

After the institution moved to Munich in 1968, the building in Freising became an educational center, today Cardinal Döpfner House . The foundation stone for a new seminary was laid in Munich on November 20, 1981 by the then Archbishop Cardinal Josef Ratzinger . His successor, Cardinal Friedrich Wetter , consecrated the seminary church on November 6, 1983, thereby handing the house over to its destination.
