The Theological University Chur (THC) is a state-recognized Roman Catholic private university in Chur in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . It is located above the Bischöflicher Hof on Alte Schanfiggerstrasse in the immediate vicinity of the Bündner Kantonsschule .
history
The beginnings of today's Theological College Chur up to the study Theologicum of 1807 founded the Seminary St. Luzi at the St. Luziuskirche back.
As an independent university, it was established in 1968 by the Apostolic See as the “Institutum Superius Theologicorum Studiorum”. In 1974 the THC received the right to issue the licentiate . Your academic degrees have been officially recognized by the Canton of Graubünden since 1976. Since 2003 the THC is "Institutum Theologicum ad instar Facultatis", d. H. endowed with the same rights as a theological faculty.
In 2003 a pastoral institute was opened. It is dedicated to research, teaching and further education in the areas of pastoral care , homiletics and religious education . In the same year, the competent Roman Congregation for Catholic Education granted the THC the right to award the " Doctoral Degree in Theology ".
After the initial accreditation in 2006, the THC in 2013 was supported by the Swiss University Conference as "academic institution" accredited . The Theological University of Chur is a founding member of the "Association of HFKG-Accredited Private Universities in Switzerland".
The Rector of the THC is currently Christian Cebulj, the Grand Chancellor is Bishop Vitus Huonder , and Birgit Jeggle-Merz is the head of the Pastoral Institute . The university is run by the Diocese of Chur . The THC is financially supported by the St. Luzi Seminary Foundation. In addition, the university is supported by grants from the canton of Graubünden and the “Friends of THC Foundation” as well as by public and private donors.
The university publishes an internet magazine entitled “Theology and Pastoral Care”. In loose succession she publishes articles that build bridges between theology and pastoral practice and show the mutual relevance of theological research and contemporary culture.

A master’s degree is a prerequisite for acceptance into the church service as a priest or pastoral assistant. It entitles you to enroll in the Canonical Licentiate, which in turn is a prerequisite for admission to the doctoral program.

The study conditions at THC offer a familiar framework. In the 2016/2017 academic year, 53 students were permanently enrolled, 10 more as guest auditors, and another 12 students completed the pastoral course of the Diocese of Chur.
