Franz Annen

Franz Annen (born March 16, 1942 in Schwyz ; † November 13, 2018 in Ibach ) was a Swiss clergyman and Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Franz Annen studied philosophy (1961 to 1964) and Roman Catholic theology (1964 to 1968) at the Pontifical Gregorian University (PUG) in Rome during the Second Vatican Council . On October 10, 1967, Annen was ordained a priest for the diocese of Chur in Rome . After studying biblical studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD.

From 1974 he was assistant professor and from 1977 to 2010 full professor for New Testament exegesis and biblical introduction at the Theological University of Chur (THC). From 1980 to 1991 Annen was also Regens of the St. Luzi Seminary in Chur . From 1999 to 2007 he was rector of the Chur Theological University THC and had to deal with the threatened closure of the seminary and in 2003 with the establishment of a pastoral institute. In 2006, Annen was recognized by the Chur Theological University THC as a private university institution. In 2010 he retired for health reasons.

In 2011, Annen was appointed canon (so-called civil canon ) of the canton of Schwyz by the extended residential chapter in succession to the late Anton Kälin and was thus a non-resident canon of the Chur cathedral chapter. He was a signatory of the 2011 Church Memorandum : A Necessary Awakening

Franz Annen last lived in the Rubiswil retirement center in Ibach, where he also died. He was the brother of Josef Annen, regional vicar general for the cantons of Zurich and Glarus.
