Albert Gasser

Albert Gasser (born January 10, 1938 in Lungern ) is a Swiss Catholic theologian and church historian .

Life

Albert Gasser grew up as the son of timber construction entrepreneur and politician Hans Gasser in Lungern and graduated from college in Sarnen in 1958 . He studied Catholic theology , general history, church history and philosophy, theology and history in Friborg, Chur, Zurich and Lucerne. Between 1963 and 1965 he taught at the college in Schwyz . In 1966 he was ordained a priest. In 1976 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. From 1969 he worked as a lecturer at the Theological University in Chur.

In 1971 he was appointed professor and full professor for church history at the Theological University in Chur . From 1978 to 1982 he was Rector of THC. In connection with the disputes over the controversial Bishop of Chur Wolfgang Haas , he stopped teaching in 1993.

From 2000 Gasser held lectures at the university as an honorary professor with teaching authorization, but without teaching obligation. From 1992 to 2003 Albert Gasser worked as parish priest at the Heiligkreuzkirche in Chur .

He has lived in Sarnen since 2012 .

Award

  • 2008: Award of recognition from the Graubünden government
  • In 2009 he was awarded the “Religious Book Prize” 2008/09 by the Association of the Catholic Book Trade of Switzerland .
