Josef Pfammatter (born October 25, 1926 in Sarnen ; † November 22, 2007 in Stans ) was a Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Josef Pfammatter grew up in Sarnen in the canton of Obwalden . He completed his high school at the Sarnen College in 1946 with the Matura . He studied theology at the St. Luzi Seminary, today's Chur Theological University . In 1950 he received in Chur , the ordination . He initially worked as a pastor in Zurich. At the same time, he studied the New Testament from 1953 onwards at the theological faculty of the University of Zurich , which had a rather reformed orientation , from 1955 on at the Pontificio Istituto Biblico , the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, and at the École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem . At the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome he was born in 1960 with the work «The Church as a Building. In 1959 he became a professor of liturgy at the seminary of St. Luzi appointed , with change as professor of New Testament exegesis , he was also chancellor of the Priest seminar. By founding the Theological College Chur in 1968, he was founding rector (1968-1970) from 1968 to 1980 he was also rain of Priest Seminary. In 1994 he retired .

Act

Pfammatter was one of the exegetes who, after the Second Vatican Council, worked on the standard translation of the Holy Scriptures on behalf of the German-speaking bishops . He was the initiator and co-editor of the Theological Reports , which have been published from 1972 until today , of which 34 volumes were published by 2012. He also became known for his commentary on Paul's letter to the Ephesians .

Together with Alojzij Šuštar, he was particularly involved in pastoral training and church adult education.

From 1972 to 1975 he was a member of the Presidium of Synod 72 , from 1977 to 1990 he was president of the diocesan priest council and from 1994 to 2001 he was an advisor to the diocesan constitution of the Graubünden Catholics .
