v. l. To right: Cathedral, Episcopal Palace and St. Martin's Church

The court in Chur describes the quarter above the old town and the Reformed Martinskirche , which is characterized by the Roman Catholic cathedral and the Episcopal Castle , the residence of the Chur bishop .

history

The farm was already settled in pre-Roman times. In 451 it became a bishopric with a simple basilica . In the 8th century the second cathedral was built, of which marble sculptures are still preserved today. The current cathedral was completed in 1272.

While the city of Chur joined the Reformation in the 16th century , the court remained a Catholic enclave . This fact was legally favored by the fact that the court had been an imperial fief since 1514 and thus a territory that was independent of the citizenry. The court's exclave was Mars oil . The complete political incorporation of the political municipality Hof Chur into the city of Chur took place in 1852.

On May 13, 1811, a devastating fire developed from an unnoticed moth fire on the clapboard roof of the cathedral dean, to which the dean's office, the St. Luzi monastery with church and seminary and the roof and tower of the cathedral fell victim.
