Parpan , in German local dialect [pɐrˈpɔːn] , Rhaeto-Romanic was a municipality in the county Churwalden , Bezirk Plessur , the Swiss canton of Grisons . On January 1, 2010, the municipalities of Churwalden , Malix and Parpan merged to form the municipality of Churwalden .
geography

Parpan is ten kilometers (as the crow flies) south of the canton capital Chur in the Churwaldnertal on the road over the Lenzerheide , with the pass height only a few hundred meters beyond the municipal boundary. The territory includes the wide hollow of the uppermost Churwalden valley and the right (eastern) flank, where the Parpaner Schwarzhorn at 2,683 m above sea level. M. the greatest height is reached.
In addition to the main settlement, at its core a street village on a meadow ridge between two streams, the community includes the Tschuggen and Gadenstatt farm groups as well as several mountain pastures on the Oberberg slope at the foot of the Schwarzhorn.
Neighboring communities are Churwalden , Tschiertschen-Praden and Vaz / Obervaz .

Description : In blue, gold miner's mallet, accompanied by two six-pointed gold stars. The tool refers to the earlier mining on the Parpaner Rothorn , the stars to the affiliation to the Churwalden district. The colors are those of the Ten Judgment League .
history
Although the Lenzerheide as part of the transit route from Chur to Northern Italy was already widely used in Roman times, the permanent settlement did not take place until the 13th century under the influence of the Churwalden monastery . The place mentioned in a document as Partipan in 1208 formed a neighborhood of the Churwalden court in the Drei Bünden . In addition to agriculture and pass traffic, ore mining on the Parpaner Rothorn represented an economic basis for the small village. This ended with the Plurs landslide on September 4, 1618, in which the whole Verthemati-Franchi family , who also owned the Parpaner mining rights, died.

In 1850, 92 people lived in Parpan, in 1900 there were 62, and in 1950 again 89. In the wake of the neighboring sports and leisure resort of Lenzerheide , Parpan experienced a stormy upswing from the middle of the 20th century. The population has tripled since 1950 and has remained constant at around 265 for some years.
Economy and Transport
Parpan is on Hauptstrasse 3 and is connected to the public transport network by the Chur – Lenzerheide post bus line .
tourism
The community is part of the Lenzerheide tourist region. Access to the ski areas on both valley flanks, Rothorn and Danis Stätz, is possible from the village . Parpan is also the destination of the World Cup slope named after the Swiss ski racer Silvano Beltrametti . Parpan has been part of the Arosa Lenzerheide ski area since winter 2013/14 .
