Parish before the merger on December 31, 2012

Until December 31, 2012, Molinis ( Romansh Molinas ? / I = mill) was a political municipality in the former district of Schanfigg , district of Plessur in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . Audio file / audio sample

On January 1, 2013 it merged with the municipalities of Calfreisen , Castiel , Langwies , Lüen , Peist and St. Peter-Pagig to form the municipality of Arosa .

geography

Molinis is located in Schanfigg , ten kilometers (as the crow flies) east of Chur . As the only settlement in the valley, the cluster village is not located on a slope terrace, but down in the narrow valley floor directly on the right bank of the Plessur . On the right (northern) side of the valley, the former municipal area only encompasses a narrow strip around 2 km long between the course of the river and the railway line running a good 100 m above. The territory on the opposite shadowy side is much more extensive. It extends from the Plessur over the mostly wooded slope, furrowed by ravines and ruff, to the extensive alpine pastures of the Ochsenalp on the northern flank of the Aroser Weisshorn . Shortly below the summit is the 2544  m above sea level. M. highest point of the former municipality reached.

In addition to the main town, the former community includes the farm settlements Gadenstett , Usser Zana and Inner Zana on the left side of the valley.

Neighboring communities were St. Peter-Pagig , Peist , Arosa , Tschiertschen-Praden and Lüen .

language

The name of the place goes back to the Romansh word mulin "mill". In fact, Molinis, like all of Schanfigg, originally belonged to the Rhaeto-Romanic language area. Molinis has only spoken German since the 16th century; the population speaks a Walser dialect, which spread from the Langwies further upstream down the valley.

economy

The former municipality offers a few jobs in agriculture and forestry, industry and trade as well as in the service sector. There is a restaurant but no longer a shop for everyday use.

traffic

Molinis is achieved by the halfway between Molinis and St. Peter Situated Station St. Peter-Molinis the railway line Chur-Arosa of the Rhaetian Railway or on a road up to St. Peter, which at the Schanfiggerstrasse located and the post bus line Chur- Peist is served.
