Molinis Church

The Reformed Church in Molinis in Schanfigg is a Protestant - Reformed church building under the monument of the canton of Grisons .

History and equipment

The sources of the first church building are uncertain. In 1509 in the pre-Reformation period there was a documented church building. This building, which was under the patronage of Bartholomew , was probably built in 1440.

A few decades after the turmoil in Graubünden ended around 1700, the choir was expanded. A major restoration took place in 1975, during which the neo-Gothic bell tower was replaced by a simpler one with a flattened spire . The church, which was completely devastated by a storm with a subsequent mud and debris avalanche on July 29, 1980, including the cemetery, was rebuilt from scratch in two years and re-inaugurated on October 10, 1982 with a new six-manual organ . In the church, which is clad in artistically carved pine wood , markings on the wall remind of the level of the mud at the time of the disaster.

Church organization

The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden leads Molinis, which used to be in pastoral community with St. Peter-Pagig and Peist and has been part of the merged Reformed parish of Mittelschanfigg since January 1, 2014 , within the Colloquium VI Schanfigg-Churwalden .
