Location of the municipality | |
Tschiertschen-Praden is a municipality in the Plessur region of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland .
It was formed on January 1, 2009 from the previous communities Tschiertschen and Praden .
coat of arms
Description : In blue a golden (yellow) pole topped with a blue star and accompanied by a golden club in front and a golden ear of wheat in the back.
The coat of arms of the municipality is a combination of the two former municipal coats of arms: the stake with the star and the ear come from the Tschiertschen coat of arms, the club comes from the Praden coat of arms, which also contained a star. The colors are those of the Ten Judgment League .
geography
Tschiertschen-Praden is located on the left, southern valley side of the Schanfigg , 7 km (as the crow flies) southeast of Chur .
Neighboring communities are Arosa , Churwalden , Chur , and Vaz / Obervaz .
history
Originally the place, mentioned as Cercene in the 8th century, was settled by Romanes , which is still remembered by many field names today. The property of the Churwalden monastery , which has been occupied since 1222, established the affiliation to the Strassberg rulership, later to the Churwalden court of the Ten Courts Association. Tschiertschen joined the Reformation around 1530 ; At the end of the 16th century there was a transition from Romance to German.
Mentioned in 1157 as Pradis (name from Latin pratum , "meadow"), Walsers from Langwies settled permanently around 1300 . Logically, Praden belonged in the Drei Bünden as a neighborhood to the Langwies court of the Ten Courts Federation and only came to the Churwalden district in 1851, when today's districts were created.
population
Tschiertschen has around 220 residents, the majority of whom are Reformed denominations.

economy
In the village of Tschiertschen there is a primary school , an evangelical parish office , the office of the tourist organization Schanfigg-Tourismus , four hotels and a multi-purpose hall.
The majority of the population lives directly or indirectly from tourism, mainly in the winter season. Praden has hardly any share in the tourism business in the area (Tschiertschen, Lenzerheide, Arosa) and offers around 20 jobs.
traffic
The Tschiertschen- Ochsenalp - Prätsch - Carmennahütte alpine road was built between 1888 and 1890, and the Tschiertscherstrasse from Chur via Passugg and Praden to Tschiertschen in 1893/94 . The community is connected to the public transport network with the Chur – Tschiertschen post bus line .
tourism
Tschiertschen-Praden offers 25 kilometers of slopes in winter with two new four-person chairlifts ( Waldstafel and Hüenerchöpf , 2001) and two ski lifts ( Gürgaletsch and Jochalp ). The Arosa – Lenzerheide ski area connection implemented in 2013/14 was controversial. The opponents feared serious interference in the landscape of the Farur and Urdental , the proponents underlined the tourist advantages for the entire region, from which Tschiertschen-Praden could also benefit with an infrastructural connection.
Attractions
Wooden houses in the Walser building tradition characterize the compact village center of Tschiertschen. Typical are the elderly at almost all the houses under the respective Gable elaborately painted house sayings that are taken almost all of the Bible. The reformed church is a Gothic building from the 15th century.
