Mars oil
The Marsöl is a listed row of houses above the old town of the Grisons capital Chur in the Hofstrasse . Originally the stables and beneficiaries of the members of the Chur cathedral chapter were located here . The Mars oil was therefore the exclave of the court , separated from it by Hofstrasse, which belonged to the (reformed) city of Chur and was maintained by it. The episcopal coat of arms also adorns the central baroque portal .
In 1909, on behalf of Bishop Georg Schmid von Grüneck, the building complex was redesigned by the architect Balthasar Decurtins into a representative hotel with a ballroom. The staggering of the row of houses rising in the slope gives the impression of a unit that has grown over the centuries.
An extensive restoration of the entire structure took place in 1999/2000.
