Gregor Bucher

Gregor Bucher OSB (* April 21, 1935 in Grosswangen , Canton Lucerne as Theodor Bucher ; † September 14, 2019 in Engelberg , Canton Obwalden ) was a Swiss religious and Catholic theologian and logician . As an author he is listed as Theodor G. Bucher .

Life

Gregor Bucher, the eldest of seven children of a parish clerk and notary, studied philosophy and musicology at the Université catholique de Louvain and the University of Cologne, as well as theology , philosophy and basic mathematical research at the University of Paris after graduating from the Engelberg Abbey School in 1957 . At the Sorbonne in Paris he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . After a year as a scientific assistant for mathematical logic in Leuven, he entered the Benedictine order in Engelberg Abbey . He made his profession on September 28, 1968 . In the same year he was ordained a priest . He was initially a teacher of philosophy, English and Russian at the Engelberg Abbey School.

In 1973 he became professor of logic at the Chur Theological University and was its rector from 1982 to 1986 and vice-rector in 1986 from 1992. In 1993, he moved to the Roman religious school of the Benedictines, the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo, as professor of philosophy . He was also the director of the library there. In 2005 he retired and returned to Engelberg Abbey, where he worked as an organist and pastor.

His book “Introduction to Applied Logic” became a standard work in training.
