Florian Kuntner

Florian Kuntner (born March 22, 1933 in Kirchberg am Wechsel ( Lower Austria ); † March 30, 1994 in Vienna ) was a Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Vienna .

Life

After attending elementary school in Kirchberg am Wechsel, he entered the Hollabrunn boys' seminar in 1945 and attended the Hollabrunn grammar school , where he graduated from high school in 1952. He then entered the Vienna seminary and studied Catholic theology at the University of Vienna .

On June 29, 1957, he was ordained a priest in Vienna . Then he was chaplain in Gerasdorf near Vienna , from March 1, 1958 in the parish of Atzgersdorf and from November 15, 1958 in Puchberg am Schneeberg . From September 1, 1960 he was prefect of studies in the boys' seminar in Hollabrunn, from 1962 pastor of Piesting , from 1969 to 1987 episcopal vicar for the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald . On May 1, 1971 he became provost pastor of the provost and main parish in Wiener Neustadt .

On September 30, 1977, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Hirina and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Vienna . He received his episcopal ordination on November 20, 1977 together with Helmut Krätzl by Cardinal Franz König in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Franz Jachym from Vienna and Auxiliary Bishop Reinhard Lettmann from Münster .

Since 1985 Kuntner was a member of the cathedral chapter of St. Stephan in Vienna. In 1987 he was appointed Episcopal Vicar for Mission and Development Aid.

He was a member of the Catholic student associations KÖHV Neostadia Wiener Neustadt (since 1970) and KÖStV Veritas Baden (since 1976) in the ÖCV .

He died of a tropical disease that he contracted while on a trip to Africa and was buried in the canon of St. Stephen in Vienna.

The Florian Kuntner memorial stone for an open church , which stands in the middle of the entrance to the Piestingen parish church , is intended to remind you that Florian Kuntner was a person to deal with, who was open to people's fears and worries and who was special moved the concerns and needs of poorer countries.

The square in front of the parish church of St. Jakob in Kirchberg am Wechsel was named "Florian Kuntner Platz" in 2004.

The Florian Kuntner Prize for parish and project partnerships in poor countries has been awarded annually since 2007 .
