Johann Nepomuk Ritter von Dankesreither (born January 22, 1750 in Vienna ; † June 10, 1823 ) was bishop of the Austrian diocese of St. Pölten from 1816 to 1823 .

Life

Johann Nepomuk Dankesreither was born in Vienna and studied philosophy and theology at the University of Vienna . After completing his studies he entered the Black Spaniard monastery ( Benedictine ), made his profession in 1768 , was ordained a priest on March 6, 1773 and after the abolition of the monastery in 1783 he was incardinated as a secular priest in the Archdiocese of Vienna and was then in various places in active in the formation of priests. In 1787 he was raised to the nobility as a canon in Brno and vice-rector of the Moravian-Silesian general seminary (knight). In 1802 he became a consultant for church affairs in the State and Conference Council, from 1807 to 1816 he was provost , vicar general and auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Vienna (titular seat Pella , consecrated on November 8, 1807) under Archbishop Sigismund Anton von Hohenwart . Emperor Franz I appointed him fourth bishop of St. Pölten in 1816.

Bishop Dankesreither, a representative of the Josephine state church, died after seven years in office. He was buried in St. Pölten Cathedral .
