Jakob Frint

Jakob Frint (born December 4, 1766 in Kamnitz , Northern Bohemia , † October 11, 1834 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian theologian, bishop of St. Pölten and main representative of the Austrian Catholic restoration; bitter opponent of the religious philosopher and mathematician Bernard Bolzano (1781–1848).

Life

After studying theology at the University of Vienna, Jakob Frint was ordained a Roman Catholic clergyman in 1795, became court chaplain in 1801, was professor of religious studies in Vienna in 1804 and, since 1808, city pastor in Laa an der Thaya . In 1810 he was appointed imperial court and castle pastor in Vienna. Since 1816 head of the educational institute for secular priests founded by the Austrian emperor, the Sankt Augustin- Frintaneum in Vienna, which bore his name. 1822 Confessor of the Austrian Emperor Franz II. (HRR) , or Franz I Joseph Karl von Habsburg-Lothringen . Jakob Frint was Bishop of St. Pölten from 1827 until his death in 1834 . His great-nephew Anton Frind (1823-1881) was bishop of the diocese of Leitmeritz .
