List of the bishops of St. Pölten
The list of the bishops of St. Pölten gives an overview of all previous bishops , coadjutors and auxiliary bishops of the diocese of St. Pölten .
In 1784, Emperor Joseph II forced the diocese of Passau to renounce its parishes in Lower Austria and founded the diocese of St. Pölten, Pope Pius VI. agreed with a bull in 1785 . The buildings of the Augustinian canon , who had been abolished shortly before, serve as the bishop's seat - St. Pölten Abbey . The first of the 17 bishops to date was Johann Heinrich von Kerens .
